Mrs. Alena Barrington
Teacher Aide, Benjamin Franklin Academy

Mrs. Barrington is beginning an exciting new chapter in her career in education as a Teacher’s Aide at Ben Franklin Academy. She is looking forward to learning, growing, and contributing alongside the school’s wonderful team of educators.

Mrs. Barrington graduated from Salem State University with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Biology. Following graduation, she spent 19 years working in veterinary medicine as a Certified Veterinary Technician and Practice Manager. Throughout her veterinary career, she discovered that one of her greatest passions was education, particularly connecting with young people and families and helping them understand the importance of responsible pet care.

Mrs. Barrington especially enjoyed introducing students to the many career opportunities available in veterinary medicine. She participated in and hosted workshops for SPCA summer camps, where she shared her knowledge and experiences with young people interested in animals and veterinary careers. She also developed and supported community outreach programs that allowed veterinary hospital teams to give back to communities in need.

Her work in community outreach has taken her to many meaningful places and experiences. In East Boston, she partnered with Boston Animal Care and Control to provide vaccinations to pets belonging to elderly community members. Following Hurricane Katrina, she traveled to Louisiana’s 9th Ward to provide veterinary care and educate middle school students in local public schools about proper pet care and husbandry. She also traveled to the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, where she and her team provided veterinary care and no-cost spay and neuter services to pets in communities with limited access to veterinary care.

These experiences strengthened Mrs. Barrington’s belief in the power of education, service, and community connection. They also inspired her to pursue an opportunity where she could continue working with young people while learning and growing in a new professional environment.

Outside of work, Mrs. Barrington enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children. When she isn’t in “hockey mom” mode, she loves being outdoors with her family. Their time together often includes gardening, kayaking, ATVing, snowmobiling and caring for the many animals on their hobby farm.

Mrs. Barrington is excited to bring her experience in education, community outreach, and relationship-building to Benjamin Franklin Academy and looks forward to becoming a valued member of the school community.
