Miss Jasmine Hsu
English Teacher, Benjamin Franklin Academy
Miss Jasmine Hsu joins the faculty as BFA’s middle and high school English teacher with a strong background in education, youth mentorship, and public service. She holds a degree in Political Science from Purdue University, with minors in History and Business Management, and a certificate in Public Policy. Throughout her academic career, she consistently earned Dean’s List honors and was selected for several nationally competitive fellowships recognizing her work at the intersection of education, policy, and community development.
Before her time at Purdue, Miss Hsu worked extensively with children and families in Denver, Colorado through a variety of community-based roles. As an Event Coordinator Intern with Confluence Ministries, she oversaw Whiz Kids programming, an after-school tutoring program focused on literacy and math for elementary students. She also served as the Children’s Director and Assistant Director of Outreach at Westside Church Internacional, where she led curriculum development for K–5 students and coordinated holistic outreach programs addressing food insecurity, immigration services, and other local needs. Additionally, she interned with Open Door Ministries, leading service-learning initiatives that connected suburban volunteers with inner-city challenges such as homelessness and youth vulnerability.
Her passion for working with youth continued to evolve through a wide range of hands-on teaching and mentoring roles. As a summer school teacher in New York City, she designed and delivered Humanities and Debate lessons for 4th through 8th-grade students, gaining innovative techniques for classroom instruction. At Purdue, she collaborated with a local nonprofit to develop an arts-based mentorship program, pairing university students with local elementary school students to foster social and emotional intelligence skills. Most recently, she served as a Student Success Coach with AmeriCorps City Year in Los Angeles, where she provided academic and behavioral support to high school students through individualized engagement plans.
Miss Hsu is thrilled to be part of a school that values close relationships and community involvement. She is committed to creating a space where students are encouraged to think critically, express themselves confidently, and grow as both learners and people. Miss Hsu (immensely) enjoys reading and writing, hosting dinner parties, trying new baking and cooking recipes, crafting meaningful gifts for loved ones, and exploring healthy activities.
